Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to continue to see a therapist after the initial intake if I am only interested in medication management?
We know from research that the very best outcomes for mental health happen when medication and therapy are combined. Our policy is that you must continue to see a therapist if you are currently receiving medications from our clinic. The final decision regarding how frequent those therapy sessions are will be made with your input by the therapist and the medical provider. Your therapist does not have to be from Cornerstone Clinic, however, your attendance at therapy will be confirmed periodically.

How does telehealth work?
The only difference between telehealth and visiting your regular doctor or psychiatrist is that they, the provider, are not in the room with you. They will be on a television screen in the room, at our clinic, talking to you as if you were on Facetime or Skype. This is done using a secure, highspeed connection so the audio and video are as if they were in the room with you.
You will arrive to our clinic just like any other appointment, check in, and then when your provider is ready for you, the medical assistant will take you to one of our telehealth rooms to meet with the provider. The medical assistant will ask you about any changes to your health, check blood pressure and weight, and be the in-person eyes and ears to anything the medical provider should need to know. The medical assistant, the medical provider, and you will collaborate so that you can have the best patient care possible. The medical provider can prescribe any psychiatric medications that are necessary in this appointment. Your prescriptions will be sent to your pharmacy just like any other medical provider that you see.

Am I charged a fee if I cancel appointments?
We have a rather firm appointment policy in place so that clinical resources can be best utilized. We require 24 hours or more of advance notice to cancel appointments. We reserve the right to charge you or your insurance company a late-cancellation fee of half of the cost of that appointment service time/type up to $40. Please note that most insurance companies will not pay this fee and it is your responsibility to pay any and all outstanding bills prior to any new appointments. You will not be allowed to attend any new appointments until late cancellation fees are paid.
A clinician may choose to waive the fee but only if it is clear that the cancellation was unavoidable.

Is my personal information safe on the patient portal?
Yes, we have partnered with a company that follows all the necessary precautions to keep your information safe and confidential. The patient portal is a secured website which is HIPAA compliant. Patients will have to login with a unique username and password.

What is holistic health?
Rather than focusing on illness or specific parts of the body, this approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment. It emphasizes the connection of mind, body, and spirit. We believe in providing a safe, caring environment with many options to improve your mental and emotional health. These options may include prescription medications, nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, stress management, environmental detox, healing of the gut, supplementation of vitamins/minerals/nutraceuticals/herbal medicines, and many more.

Why do I have to see a Therapist before the Psychiatrist?
We know from research that the very best outcomes for mental health happen when medication and therapy are combined. Our policy is that you must complete an intake with a therapist and then continue to see a therapist if you are currently receiving medications from our clinic. The final decision regarding how frequent those therapy sessions are will be made with your input by the therapist and the medical provider. That being said, we do not have a psychiatrist on staff. We have a family nurse practitioner and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, both qualified to prescribe medications and treat your mental health concerns.

What if Cornerstone is not "in-network" with my insurance company?
There are several insurance companies that have not finished contracts with Cornerstone as it is a long process. If your insurance carrier does not consider us “in-network” you can still check if your carrier will treat us as “out-of-network”. If we are considered “out-of-network”, it usually results in a higher copay, for example in-network might be 20% copay where out-of-network might be 30% instead.

Can I still schedule an appointment if my insurance denies coverage?
Yes, however you will need to pay prior to the appointment by cash or card.
-
Do you treat children?
